Suitable for beginners and more experienced painters alike, this course combines hands-on instruction, inspiring coastal views, and convivial hospitality. What to expect Painting sessions on the cottage deck, in the gardens, and from intimate vantage points that capture the unique light and landscape of the Cuckmere valley and the Seven Sisters. We will be painting using oils on boards. You will explore different approaches to the seascape and learn about colour palettes and underpainting techniques. By the end of the long weekend you will have several paintings to take home with you and a greater understanding of the challenges specific to seascape painting Guidance from Nick on composition, colour, brushwork and translating atmospheric coastal scenes into compelling paintings. Techniques and demonstrations tailored to each student’s level and interests. Hospitality Homemade lunch is provided on Friday and Sunday which is cooked in the house kitchen by our host. On Saturday we will start the day a bit later and have dinner in the early evening, followed by a sunset painting session to practise working quickly and responding to changing light. Practical details Suitable for beginners and more experienced painters. A materials list will be provided two weeks before the start of the course. Nick will meet you at the South Hill Barn and help you carry all of your belongings to the cottage. The price is £360. This includes the three meals. Spaces are limited to preserve an intimate, focused working environment.
